As a Humanistic Existential Counsellor I will listen to you, providing you with a warm, safe, and confidential environment in which to talk. I will help and support you and I won’t give advice or pass judgement; the counselling focuses on you and what you need, exploring your thoughts and feelings. Some people come with a very clear idea of what they believe is the cause of their distress, and others know only that their lives feel weighty and painful. In my work I understand that every individual is both unique and valuable, that the issues that are brought are always important.
My vocational training specialised with issues around domestic abuse, also working within an agency whose clients had variety of concerns including - depression, loss, bereavement, lack of motivation, relationship, and work-related issues.
I am a Registered Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I fully adhere to the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Please find out more information here. I qualified to deliver 'Walk and Talk' therapy and am happy to discuss integrating this into your sessions as required.
I work as a lecturer in Counselling at Cardiff and Vale College and Youth and Social Care with the University of South Wales. I have worked in promoting mental health and well-being through group support, mentoring and training in stress management, mental health awareness, confidence building and assertiveness. All these roles help me understand the experiences of people from a broad range of backgrounds.
I continually undertake a broad variety of training. Recent training has included - Walk and Talk therapy, understanding and working with self-harm, domestic abuse, coercion and control, safeguarding, working with trauma and children at risk of sexual exploitation, understanding narcissism and ACE’s (adverse childhood experience). I am a Mental Health First Aider and am ASIST (suicide first aid) trained.
